We split "In The Money" dessert drink after our entrees. The drinks were inventive and delicious, altho certainly not inexpensive! Jeff had an Old Fashioned with Rye that was fabulous and I had a Cherry Mule, also fabulous. Both were just fantastic - with the lamb chops being probably the best I've ever had!!!! We sat on the outside side street patio where there was an outlet right by our table for charging my fading cell phone. #The whale chicago windows#Great interior design, high spirited, modern decor and atmosphere inside and out: "centered around the lavish casino lifestyle of the 40's and 50's." The huge slide up and all-glass garage door type windows were open to a mild beautiful Chicago fall afternoon. The decor knocked us out - including the restrooms - more than living up to our initial visual impression. Wide open windows, patios on both street sides. My son and I were on our way up Milwaukee Ave to another restaurant on Irving Park when we passed by The Whale and were attracted to the set up. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a casual or formal dining experience with friends, family or colleagues. The cost to dine at this place was very fair as I expected it to be very expensive. I also ordered a drink that contained pineapple with coconut milk and some other ingredients I don’t remember but it was very good. I ordered the steak frites and I love my steak well done and they didn’t disappoint. The Whale restaurant is as beautiful as the pictures depict. #The whale chicago full#The place was packed full and we were told that we would have to wait 1hr 30mins for a table for 5 but luckily for us they had a lounge area that could fit all 5 of us. When we got to the restaurant, I thought we would be turned back because we were dressed for bowling but it didn’t matter. I found this restaurant randomly as I was looking for a nearby restaurant to have dinner with some friends because our original plan was to go bowling but it got canceled due to the charity event they were having at the bowling alley that night.
